Lake Sherwood Council
ALTERNATIVE
ENERGY POLICY
The Lake Sherwood Acres
Restrictions and Protective Covenants (R & C’s) do not
mention the installation or use of Alternative Energy Devices (Devices)
or sources and equipment by residents. In anticipation that some
LSA residents may want to install such Devices that provide full-time,
part-time or intermittent energy the Lake Sherwood Council (Council)
has adopted the following policy statement.
Alternative Energy
sources are defined as any service or Device that supplements or
replaces electrical energy or natural gas supplied by Entergy or
Entergy’s successors or other such providers of residential energy.
Such Devices include but are not limited to solar panels (for electric
or hot water generation), internal combustion engine driven electrical
generators, wind turbines, and ground thermal heating and/or cooling
systems. As with all other exterior construction projects residents
must secure a permit from the Council in order to install any
Alternative Energy Devices.
The Council requires
that the installation of Alternative Energy Devices be accomplished in
the least obtrusive and least noticeable manner. Thus such Devices must
not be visible from the front or side streets. Privacy fences meeting
the requirements of the R&C’s may be used to shield a Device from view
from the front or side street. Also, whenever possible, these Devices
should not be located along the side of the home such that it is visible
from the neighboring house. Again, privacy fences may be used to shield
a Device from view from the neighboring house. The sound level produced
by the Device, when operating, must not exceed 68 dB @ 7 meters or the
sound level specified for residential areas in the Southern Building
Code and/or any East Baton Rouge Parish ordinance, whichever is lower.
Under no circumstances
will wind turbines of any type be allowed.
