We have four
fountains in our lake plus a dredge pump for a total of five pumps.
Each one is connected via two heavy electrical cables that run from
the fountain to the nearby
bulkheads and then to the
electrical hook-up and timer. We have had instances where the
electrical cables that are lying on the
bottom of the lake have been cut by trolling motors. Nearly any
trolling motor could cause damage to these cables. We suspect that
the larger party barges with their larger motors that extend down
deeper into the lake are even
more likely to damage these
cables. Once the cables are cut the fountains quit running of
course and the repairs are difficult and expensive. Also, cutting
the electrical cables can present an
electrical
hazard if the fountains happen to be
running at the time. Each one is protected by a GFIC but
still there is a hazard.
To help
alleviate this problem we are in the process of doing two things.
First, we are putting signs up on the bulkheads where the cables come
out of the lake and run to the timers. These signs are 18”x24” and have
red letters warning of the electrical danger and asking boaters to keep
at least 30 feet out from that bulkhead to avoid hitting the cables.
Secondly, as we are able to we plan to encase the cables in PVC pipe.
This too will be difficult and expensive and take some time.
So, as
you use your boats please watch for the signs along the bulkhead, there
will be five, and stay al least 30
feet out from the bulkhead in that area.
Thank you
all for helping us keep Lake Sherwood Acres’ lake a beautiful asset that
we can all enjoy and take pride in.

It has
been suggested that we hold a children’s fishing derby.
It would be open to the children of
residents and perhaps others. Since
I don’t have any experience or knowledge of running a fishing derby I am
soliciting our residents for volunteers to take on this project. One
resident offered to pay for some prizes out of his own pocket. This
could be a fun event and may be
something we’d want to do on an annual basis.
If anyone
is interested please contact me.
Thank
you.
