Dear fellow residents.

On a monthly basis I receive a report from Nottingham Construction Company on the status of their work on the sewer project.  The latest report is attached for your information.

For those of you that live along Weiner Creek, Mike Nolan has told me that after construction, the top (horizontal portion) of the bank will be graded and bare ground will be seeded.  Also, I will be talking with the DPW about the erosion from the culverts bringing water to the creek from the street drains on Lake LaDare and Lake LaBerge Court.

If you have any questions, let us know and we will try to get answers for you.

Lake Sherwood sewer construction update.  August 8th, 2009

Nottingham Construction is proceeding with the sewer project on or ahead of schedule.  During the next few weeks, we will be seeing the following activities:

·       In the coming week, the micro-tunneling crew will install the sewer line in a casing that has already been installed in Weiner Creek area immediately downstream from the outfall of the dam.  Following this work, they will demobilize and move to another portion of the project.  The casing will then be reinforced with the addition of large riprap that will be trucked onto the site and deposited over the casing to protect it from the effects of the dam outfall.  Both Nottingham and DPW are aware that we have had problems in this area with surface drainage and erosion downstream of the dam.  Nottingham will re-grade the surface drainage as it was, and DPW has committed to continue to maintain the outfall.

·       At the main pumping station next to the Club, the concrete structure is about 80% complete.  It should be complete and coated in approximately 4-6 weeks, and the sheet piling will then be removed.

·       The micro-tunneling crew will return in 4-6 weeks to re-mobilize for the Weiner Creek run.  They will begin near Sherwood Forest and work their way east toward the dam.  Residents along Weiner Creek will notice their presence because they use a generator to power their machinery.  They will be working normal daytime hours.

·       In the next week or so, Entergy will re-route their power lines on the ZZ parcel (next to the bridge on the west side (inlet) of the lake).  Work will then begin on the upgrade of the pumping station at that location.  The project calls for replacing the existing pump station with a larger one that will be built adjacent to the old unit.  Large equipment will be used and it is planned that the west sidewalk and at least one lane of Lake Sherwood East will be closed for several weeks.  During working hours, it may be necessary to close both lanes of Lake Sherwood East.  Appropriate signs, as directed by the DPW, will be installed to alert motorists when the road is closed.

Mike Nolan and Nottingham Construction continue to work closely with us and have been very responsive and responsible regarding our neighborhood.  Please let us know if you have any problems or concerns.

From: Mike Nolan [mailto:MNolan@nottcon.com]

Today, we are pouring concrete for the first section of walls for the PS136. This lift station from will be formed and poured in three lifts. The installation of sewer Line C began on Tuesday; as you recall this line leaves PS136 area crosses the creek and runs in the Woodland ridge area.

Along the creek we have begun drilling and setting our micro-tunnel insertion shafts and the drilling should be completed in another week. Concrete bottoms are currently being poured in those. Yesterday the drilling subcontractor knocked down a portion of brick fence of one of the residences. Contact information was left for them and the contractor will make the necessary repairs.

The micro-tunnel subcontractor will begin mobilization late next week and begin drilling in 2-3 weeks. We are waiting on material to be delivered for PS134 (by the lake) and activity at that location will probably begin within a month.

Last weekend we did not experience any trespassing and vandalism at the PS136 station and I suspect that had something to do with activity at the pool. The 8’ dia. Drill shafts are probably creating some interest but have a security mat resting on top of them.

Hope this provides some insight to the latest activities.

 Thanks,

 Mike Nolan

Dear residents,
I received the following update this morming from Nottingham Construction:
Scott Shean

Good morning Scott,

By now you may have noticed that the sweet sound of hammering has stopped in your neighborhood. It appears that the cofferdam sheeting is driven to the proper depths. The excavation has begun and you may see a little dump truck activity hauling off spoils. We will be mobilizing another pipe crew to begin Line “C” in about a week. This activity will not really affect your neighborhood. From a design stand point we are working out issues with Line “B” and I will give you some notice before we mobilize for the micro-tunneling.

As soon as the excavation of PS136 is completed we will pour a “dry” bottom and begin to form the walls for this lift station.

Hope this gives you some insight.
Thanks, for your support,

Mike Nolan

TWO DPW PROJECTS

Dear Fellow Residents,

As some of you have already noticed, there is extra activity in our subdivision because of the upgrade of the sewer lift station and lines in our area.  The most noticeable will be the equipment and work on the property east of the Club, the movement of old concrete foundations and dirt by dump truck through our subdivision streets, and for the residents along Weiner Creek, the clearing of brush along the top of the bank of the creek.

Following is an update on two DPW projects in our area.

 Dam Maintenance Project

During our routine inspection of the dam, Leif Grotness and I observed erosion on the banks and on the floor of the apron where some of the 2007 DPW repairs have failed.  We contacted Tom Stevens of DPW and he visited the site last week.  He saw the damage and agreed that some work needed to be done to protect the west bank and floor.  He committed to performing the work this summer.

Since the meeting with Tom Stevens, we have learned that there will be a new sewer line installed on the Weiner Creek servitude that will cross the end of the dam.  Considerable work is planned to protect the line in that area from the erosion by the dam discharge, and the two projects will have to work together.  Overall, it should be to our benefit to strengthen the area.

 Sewage System Upgrade Project

The DPW has let contracts for the upgrade of the sewage system in our area.  Last week, Lynn Rogstad (President of the Club Board), Leif Grotness, Dick Hevey, and I (SLA Directors) met with Mike Nolan, Project Manager for Nottingham Construction Company-Baker, LA, which has been awarded the contract from DPW to construct the new large sewage lift station next to the Club property.  The project includes replacing the existing lift station with a large station built mostly below ground.  It will require a "coffer dam" of sheet piles that will be driven into the ground to allow excavation to a depth of 40 feet.  The piles will be removed after the construction.  Also included is the upgrade of the lift station on our ZZ property (Near canal at Lake Sherwood Ave. East), as well as the lines to and from the main station and the buried line across the discharge of LSA dam.

Work has started on the main lift station and the right-of-way for the sewer line upgrade in Weiner Creek is being cleared of all brush and small trees less than 6 inches.

Mike Nolan will be attending the SLA April 6th Board meeting to make a presentation and answer questions on the project.  Our emphasis to him will be to keep our streets clean, obey our traffic laws, and to repair any damage resulting from the construction.  In this regard, I ask your help in monitoring their performance in these areas, and in letting us know of any problems that they are creating for the subdivision and its residents.
