‘Project LSA’

PROGRESS LSA Update

This is an update report on the PROGRESS LSA project started last November to repair our 8 miles of concrete walks in LSA and to trim the overhanging and encroaching trees and shrubs that impede walkers and joggers. The goal of the project is to make it safer and easier for all of us to enjoy the benefits of walking or jogging in our beautiful subdivision.

We are pleased to report that much of the shrubbery and tree trimming has been completed thanks largely to George Atherton, a resident of LSA, who volunteered to do a lot of trimming in his spare time for residents. Also, our thanks to those residents who took action on their own and trimmed their shrubs and trees, and many of you did. There are still a few needing attention so please take a look at the trees and shrubs that line your sidewalks and make sure they do not encroach on the walkway. Also, don’t forget that the growing season is just around the corner and these trees and shrubs will have to be maintained.

The concrete repairs are going more slowly. We continue to survey every walk, taking photos, making notes about what needs to be done and trying to determine if the repairs are the responsibility of the City or the resident. This process should be complete within the next several weeks. Generally, if the damage is the result of a tree growing between the sidewalk and the curb or sewer manholes that are in the walk, that damage is the responsibility of the City. The damage is usually in the form of broken, sunken, or raised sections. Damaged caused by trees growing in your front yard, vehicles driving across the walk at the driveway, or due to other causes are generally the resident’s responsibility to repair.

The primary reason to make the sidewalk repairs and trim the shrubs and trees is to make our walkways safer and our subdivision better. We don’t want our residents or others to be injured from a fall etc. while walking in LSA. Unfortunately several residents have fallen and sustained injuries. We need to take action to prevent further incidents like this. Another reason is to lessen our individual and the City’s liability for injuries or accidents caused by these sidewalk defects.

Once we know what needs to be repaired we plan to contact the City with a list for them to come out, inspect, and hopefully agree to repair.

Also, for those repairs that are likely the responsibility of the resident we plan to have two meetings where the contractor we have been working with can explain what he will do and his pricing. If you elect to have the repairs made you would be dealing directly with the contractor.

Stay tuned for more updates and call if you have any questions.
