We never open the pool without two certified guards on duty. Guards take 30 minutes
shifts on the stand, unless the weather is over 92 degrees fahrenheit, in which case
they may rotate every 15 minutes. Per Red Cross standards, we staff one guard per
20 bodies on the pool deck, so if there are more than 40 patrons inside the gates,
we will call in an additional lifeguard.
Lake Sherwood Club accepts lifeguard applications in February to April each year,
however, it is best not to wait because these positions are highly sought after and
are usually filled by the first week or two in April. This allows staff to be in
place for pre-season training and opening preparations.
Applicants do not need to already be certified to apply, but they must list dates
that they are registered for the certification course. No applicant will actually
work as a lifeguard at LSC pool until evidence of certification is submitted to LSCA
